    In this particular model (can’t recall the name. Alura? Something like that. A mid-size) I had success using the slim jim about 3 to 4 inches in front of the outside door lock. I’d say I went about 6 or seven inches below the visible part of the window. Hope that helps.

    I just used a slim jim this weekend to open a friends car who locked her keys in her car with the car running. This tool is still useful. And her locks were the ones that are up front on the side panel of the door and have to flip out away from the door. So the tool has more applications than just upright locks.
